Thanks for everything.- Take Cover

To our friends, family and friends:

I have no idea how to approach this and that’s never usually an issue for me. However, I think the best strategy always ends up being blunt honesty, so I’m going to go with that.
Take Cover has been a band for 4 years. We’ve put out 3 EPs, 3 singles and a full length record called “The Dreamer and The Realist”. We’ve toured every coast in America playing shows together as bandmates, business partners and brothers. We’ve stuck together through the incredible highs and lows of being in a band; sharing creative breakthroughs and playing huge shows, getting into drunken arguments and losing tours to “buy-on” bands (that’s right I said it). Without gushing any further, we all frickin’ love each other. That’s why it was so difficult to make the decision we have made. Its honestly one of the hardest things that any of us have ever had to do, but we feel that now is the right time and when you know, you know.
As of last week we have decided that Take Cover will be parting ways. The time has come where some of us feel ready to move on to the next chapter of our lives and we had to be honest with ourselves and each other and accept it. Although we are disbanding as Take Cover, I want to assure everyone that this is not the end of music for any of us by any means. It’s in our blood and its not going anywhere.

We want to say thank you to every single person who has ever bought a cd, showed a friend our music or came to a show. We are so proud of everything that we’ve accomplished together and will remember this part of our lives forever. We have some of the most dedicated and passionate fans in the world. I’m still completely blown away and humbled every time I see someone with a tattoo of Take Cover lyrics. Seriously, you guys don’t know what that means to us.
We also want to thank the AMAZING bands and people we’ve had the honor of knowing from all over the country.
Every tour and opportunity we’ve ever received has been a result of the kindness of these awesome people: You, Me and Everyone We Know, Jordan Schmidt, Quietdrive, Chad Snell, Sing it Loud, Claudio Rivera, Motion City Soundtrack, Jamestown Story, Man Overboard, The Higher, Queens Club, Patent Pending, The Movement, No Wings to Speak Of, Four Letter Lie, Mathletes, Every Avenue, Hit the Lights, Famous Like You, Skies Alive, All The Right Moves, The Venetia Fair, The Academy Is..
We are sad to bring this news but very excited about the future. Please come celebrate our band with us at our last two shows. Again, we want to thank you for the last 4 years, we won’t ever forget them.

Take Cover: Today and Tomorrow

Hello everyone!

Ryan here. I wanted to give everyone an update on the world of Take Cover in a much more in-depth way than the usual Facebook status update or video. We’ve really come to realize that you guys deserve to know exactly what’s going on with us, that we are not dead and why we haven’t played your town yet!

So as you know we dropped our first full length this year with the help of all of our Kickstarter friends and the wonderful people who pre-ordered our record. Thanks for everyone who donated to that stuff and sorry for the complications in getting everyone their rewards! We are just 5 irresponsible musicians trying to manage the overwhelming support and response we got. We had no idea what we were doing and the result was 100 trips to the post office, many paper cuts and some lost packages. ha. Yeah. FAIL. So those of you that got a late acoustic video or a bent poster, we are sorry and we will make it up to you the next time you see us. Just remind us! We have the attention span of goldfish.

Alrighty, onto bigger fish to fry. (ba doom doom tshhh)

So we took a lot of big chances this fall instead of booking the typical midwest run that we do once a year. We flew out to New York City to play for some booking agents which was really cool.  We met some awesome people and the trip was worth it in a lot of ways. However, whether or not you guys know this, it is REALLY hard these days to make things happen for unsigned bands. We found this out the hard way. Let me explain.

As a result of playing this show, we had a really good chance of getting on the Hit the Lights, Dangerous Summer tour heading out this fall. So naturally, when an opportunity that big is on the table, you get starry eyed and hopeful. This being the case we didn’t have too much of a back up plan because we really felt we had a shot. In addition, if we would’ve gotten this tour, it would have been a month and a half of hitting all the places you guys write on our wall all the time about. Florida! Texas! Canada! ect ect. ect. Things WE WANT TO DO SO BAD.. you gotta believe us. We really thought this would pan out.

However, business is business, life is hard and sometimes lemons don’t turn into lemonade they just kind of rot on the counter and the juice squirts you in the eye and you tumble down a flight of stairs. AKA, another band was “chosen” for this tour and bumped us right off…. Not much we can do about that but be bummed.

So long story short guys we haven’t booked a tour for September/October because we had our eyes on the prize, got a little ahead of ourselves and now we are sort of left licking our wounds. Im not trying to draw a ton of sympathy for us or DAMN the music industry, I just want everyone to know that sometimes while there doesn’t seem to be much going on on our Facebook page or twitter feeds with dazzling updates and glamourous parties with Zac Efron, we really have been working hard and just kind of fell into some bad luck.

BORED READER: “Enough excuses and bitching! What’s next for Take Cover?!?! “

Here’s whats up. We released a record in July that we LOVE and haven’t got to play for you all yet. Here’s the plan.

We are working on setting up dates in late October and November with School Boy Humor and This Love. We will hit many many midwest areas and quite possibly Florida Texas and everything in between. This may change but thats what we’re working on!

Once winter hits we are trying for West and East Coast finally! Also, possibly some acoustic sessions in time for Christmas ;) but we’ll see.

So my friends, believe me when I say we put our blood, sweat and tears into the airwaves. I don’t write that stuff because I want you to think this is tough. I write it because this band is our LIFE, our PRIDE, our CREATION and when times are good they are great and when its a let down it hurts like hell. I hope this post is taken with the sincerity i felt writing it. Let it be known we are not at a cross roads as a band, but a speed bump on our journey to where we want to be.

Please keep the faith and we will see you soon.

Love,

Ryan & my best friends in Take Cover

I’m a blogger now?

I will now use tumblr. as another fantastic facet to speak my mind in ways that facebook, myspace, twitter and formspring cannot fulfill. I wonder how many social networks it will take until we all feel “heard?”

Regardless, amidst all of the neurotic thoughts and opinions we all have I think this is a really cool site I’ve never gotten into before, so let’s see what happens!
